My family and I have always loved animals. As children, Dad would take every opportunity to observe and teach about every reptile and amphibian we encountered. We caught our first snake (Eastern Garter) together when I was three years old. We kept and observed this beautiful reptile for a little while, and my love for snakes was born.
This continued for many years, with us identifying native species, occasionally over several days to observe behavior. After spending three-and-a-half years in Hawaii, which has no snakes (other than a species of blind snake and a sea snake), I was suffering from snake withdrawal. Don't get me wrong-Hawaii was AWESOME, but I finally got my first pet snake, a Normal Ball Python named Medusa once we returned to the mainland US.
While researching the care requirements for a ball python for a full year before I received Medusa and in the first several months she was in our home, I learned a lot about genetics and breeding. From that point, I was determined to be a breeder. We then purchased our first several morphs, a male Banana Ball Python named "Banana" (creative, I know), and a female Piebald Ball Python named "Aphrodite" (returning to the greek mythology theme). In the year that followed, we carefully planned and purchased our breeding animals and had a total of 20 ball pythons.
Fast forward three years, and the female hatchlings we obtained were now beginning to reach breeding size. In July of 2019, the first clutch of six perfect eggs was laid-resulting in our first six hatchlings, including the first hold-back, the Female Killer Clown Ball Python "Chaos", pictured to the right. Two more clutches were hatched in 2019, giving us a total of 15 beautiful, healthy hatchlings. We were on our way!
In August of 2019, we made our first bioactive enclosure (the prototype for our DSR Bioactive line) to provide both a secure home and a display solution for these beautiful and reclusive animals. The prototype was improved, and two production versions were later built for customers desiring to display their new pets.
We here at DSRoyals are looking forward to 2020, with many cool projects expected to reach fruition.
We thank you for your interest in DSRoyals and look forward to helping you with your reptile needs both now and for years to come.
